How Does Your Garden Grow?

Reed ventured into gardening last year.  This year he is adding even more things to his garden.  After doing lots of research, he decided to do a container garden. He actually planted seeds in February, and now they have grown into some quite lovely plants.  He has begun to transfer some of his seedlings from the greenhouse to his containers outside.  I can't wait for fresh tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, strawberries, eggplant and more.  The best part is that he doesn't like for me to invade his space in the garden.  Fine by me!  I do get to reap the rewards of eating all the goodies.  Last year I put up quite a few pickles and jelly.  Hopefully I'll get to do even more of that this summer.

Below are just a few samples of his plants-

Tomatoes

Squash

Peppers

Yummy!  Maddie will love picking these!

Those strawberries are actually growing in
this Topsy Turvy.  It now has 15 plants. They are really growing.
I have been very impressed with this little invention so far.

I'm pretty impressed with these too!

And I didn't want to be left out.  My knock out roses are
already looking great!

We are off to Alex City this weekend for a little pre-birthday visit!  We can't wait!

One More Fishing Trip

The thing about being an empty nester is that you can pretty much do what you want.......So, one afternoon after work we decided to do a little fishing.  Let me clarify a few things-I am really NOT much of a fisherman.  I cannot bait my own hook, and I just can't bring myself to touch a fish..... However, it was a gorgeous day, and it was a wonderful opportunity to be outside with Reed.  He spends quite a bit of time getting me unhung, baiting my hook, and taking my fish off.  And on this particular day, the wind was literally blowing about 20 mph. BUT, inspite of those few minor details, I totally caught way more fish on this day.  We each caught several crappie, plus I also caught a bass and an ugly alligator gar.  I usually take a book or magazine to read, but now that I have proclaimed myself the queen of fishing, I might actually start really fishing more often.  If I am not careful, he might insist I bait my own hook or take my fish off by myself.  If that happens, it's back to the books for me!

Reed is fixing my hook.  I think he had to replace my hook 3 times!

The Creepy Alligator Gar....

This thing was down right scary looking!

One of my many of the day.
I wouldn't hold him, so Reed had
me put my hand on top of his.
Please ignore the terrible nails.  I came
home and took that week old polish off........

Thanks trusty self-timer!

We let almost this many go.
Not bad for a short, but fun trip!

The Sandbox and Park

On the day we planned to take Maddie home, our goal was to keep her awake so she would sleep on the way to meet her mom.  Well, in order to do this we played in the sand box and yard, went to the park and out to eat for lunch.  The plan worked....But, she still woke up about 15 miles out of town.  However, due to the wonderful invention of  a portable DVD, we had a wonderful trip.  I think she would travel to California as long as she could watch Miss Patty Cake or Barney!

The Sand Box

Uncle C was helping her play, but he had just gotten up and threatened my life if I put pictures of him on the blog.......I tried to assure him that he looked great with a mohawk.

The Park

Riding the horsey!

The tunnel

The red slide is her favorite especially when
Uncle C  joins in!!

Come on C!

Here he comes!

Time to head back to Alex City after another fun visit!

Good Night Moon - Hello Fish

Wasn't this moon a beautiful sight?  Supposedly it was the largest it's been since 1993....Reed and I went to the hayfield to get an upclose look.

And the next day, Reed, Caleb and I did a little fishing.  Actually Reed and Caleb fished, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to read a book.  All in all, a perfectly beautiful afternoon!

All these little guys were thrown back in....
I think they caught a few more, but I was pretty involved in my book........

Have a great day!

Mud Bugs

Reed loves crawfish.....So, we journeyed to Columbus for his first taste of the season. (We have since been back again without Maddie.)  This was also Maddie's first time to see crawfish.  I think her response was "yuck." She and I both agree on that!

Pop tried to talk her into trying one, but
she wasn't having it!

So she lined up the sugar packets instead and waited on
her chicken fingers........

And a picture from Round 2......

Have a great day!

What Did You Do For Spring Break?

I am so often asked what I do on my Spring Break.  The answer is simple- not much, but a whole lot.  We use to go to the beach every Spring Break.  We finally realized that it just wasn't warm enough for us yet...
So here is a quick recap of my funfilled week.

1.  I did a little cooking, a little cleaning, and a lot of laundry.

2.  I worked in the yard a little.  I was tempted to plant some flowers, but instead I just got my pots and beds ready.

3.  I went fishing with my favorite guys.

4.  I spent lots of fun time with our precious Maddie!  What did we do before we had her?

I will also say that after each holiday or vacation it gets harder and harder for me to go back to work........Don't get me wrong-I still love my job and the people I work with, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel and it's starting to shine a little brighter!!

Just a Swingin'

I think these pictures are priceless.  Her smile simply melts my heart!

Giving Pop a helping hand!
